Tallents that perhaps should show up: Metallurgy (amazingly useful for smithing and engineering), Engineering (TL whatever), possibly Architecture/Fortification, A Detect Weapon that works a lot more like the [Troubadour]'s [Empathic Sense], and possibly (perhaps instead of Conceal Weapon) a "storage space" tallent that allows the smith to carry more *stuff* than he could in any reasonable world. In addition, a number of tallents should probably be reworked and possibly renamed. I'll keep updating as I get ideas, but I'll try to pin down each circle before I get there. --zebediah Also...if Weaponsmiths are actually supposed to forge the party in a metaphorical rather than physical sense, they might have some tallents useful for inspiring heroic behaviour, or that act like psychoanalysis--tempering the resolves and characters of his fellow party memebers --zebediah.
2002/04/04 18:29 EST (via web):
I like all of those suggested Talents, Jesse, in both sets. "Temper Other," for example, did that, and having an earlier version which is essentially Psychoanalysis would be sort of neat. There should probably be 7 First Circle Talents, for parity with the other disciplines, so perhaps we can find some to put in there --- Metallurgy, for example. --bts
Tallents in the works, that have not been written or even assigned a circle: o Weapon Empathy. By spending some time (minutes) around a weapon, you may attune yourself to it. You get a sense of what it's doing/about to do (good for noting a suprise attack), roughly were it is (good for finding your signature weapon if someone's walked off with it...is Signature Weapon, or something like it, a purchasable advantage?), and perhaps it "likes" you, dealing less damage on a strike. o Architecture/Fortification. The name says it all. o Distillation. A Way of pulling true elemental energies out of impure sources, i.e. true water from water, true wood from plants, true earth from clay and soil. Things that can be dropped: o Disarm is a manuver, not a skill generally, right? That can be replaced. Either that, or it should be made into a mystical disarm (I turn and gaze at you as you ready your sword. Suddenly, you find that rather than being prepaired to strike, it is lying at your feet. "Are you ready to continue the conversation like a civilized person?" I ask. o Warp Missle just seems a bit wierd. On the other hand, Smiths don't currently have anything like [Avoid Blow]. I was picturing them dealing with this with a combination of lots of parrying and either Metal Ward (oops, doesn't work on non metal-tipped arrows) and Weapon Empathy. Can one parry arrows? --zebediah
OK...I can think of a number of things that Tempering/Psychoanalysis should do. o Spot Personality Flaw--by spending time with a person, you can identify their flaws. Might be able to speed it up with karma. Might also be useful as psychoanalysis, or give a bonus to psychoanalysis. o Steel Resolve: gives the person the temporary ability to ignore flaws...perhaps a number of chances to resist taunts, flaws, san checks based on success margin. Resisted by WL, whether the person will or no. Can be used on self. o Eliminate Flaw. Long term therapy stuff, helps get rid of disadvantages (possibly physical & metaphysical as well), perhaps could be used to get rid of perminant taint? High circle. --zebediah Other high level things that would be cool...temporary imbuement (You need a +1 sword of light? Gimme. ::frobs:: Here's your +1 sword of light. It's only good for a few hours, so use it quick), creation of metal golems (ooh, golems! Sort of smacks of nethermancy, or maybe elementalism), Abate Enchantment, as an enhanced Abate Curse (sorry, your enchanted weapon doesn't work on me. ha ha.), skill with traps and locks (overlaps with theif, but also involves setting them up), Transmutation (alchemy-like skill, aspected towards changing the properties of metals...or other things. Distillation might be part of it)--zebediah
Improve blade was in fact the temp add bonus talent. You might extend it to adding more complex modifiers then +X damage. -jss (I also think weapon empathy seems odd, and a bit too fuzzy cuddly for a smith, but that could be just me) I'm substituting [Reforge] for imprive blade...no, I'm not quite certian what it does yet, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. I'm not sure what's cuddly about weapon empathy, but then again I've not yet given a full description yet...remember, this is what's standing in for Warp Missile. It should be able to protect people. Right. When I get distracted again. --zebediah
