We sat down and started talking to A'. Apparently, ritual magic works by allowing you to not need line of sight--the range depends on the coolness of the link. They would have to gather a bunch of people to chant and sing, then send someone into Astral Space to guide the spell. The most likely thing that they'd do is telerecieve and rip our minds apart. Arlix called from a pay phone, and Tom told him to stay in Boston. Tom and I were arguing about what we should say to the Ambassador, trying to figure out whether we had the "family" or the "a la carte" deal with Tir Taingire. We are, in fact, in posession of most of the techie-toys that we stole, and we *really* don't want to upset either Tir. We agreed to go talk to the Ambassador--I tell the story, and Tom does the negotiating. I told him the story, though he had me skip part of it, and he asked why we were telling him this. "Do you intend to back out of the deal you made with them if I have a way of protecting you?" Tom, after a moment, said "no" "Do you intend to back out of the deal you made with me" Tom said "no" "Alright. Which of us to you intend to betray? It seems you must betray at least one of us, and as much as Tir Taingire and Tirnanogth don't get along, people who betray one are not likely to be trusted by the other" "I've never had a family member choose dishonor and betrayal over death" "You came in here to tell me that you have made a deal that requires you to either betray me or them. I hope you don't mind if I have a few more guards in here (more guards enter) "They're interested in a unified Elven nation that sets cultural standards for elves the world over--sort of like the French Academie with pointy ears" "So, to be blunt, who do you plan on betraying, and what do you plan on doing?" Tom: "We want to try to fix some of the mistakes we've made, especially the horror we left wandering around... You want to establish yourselves as independants? Fine. For my national security, I am going to ask for the same surity that Tir-na-nogth did, and I'm not going to feed you any line about mailing it back to you. We're going to hold on to it until you're dead, or we are. We'll help you pack up your things, and drop you on the mainland. Do not expect my nation to hold fond memories of this..." They agreed to have all-but-one, since Tir-na-nogth has all-but-one, and told us that they'd allow us to leave the base with a blood sample. He told us not to expect to be able to leave within 48 hours of making a request. He pulled out a copper knife, and a green bottle. He took blood from me, Dana, Tom and Kianna, put it in separate vials, and took them.
