Jonathan was the child of shipping agent(father) and a not very
successful newspaper reporter(mother). His parents died in a car crash
when he was 11, and he was raised by his godfather, Wang Miyamoto(a
90-odd year old who once ran a suchi resteraunt).  

As he went through school, he was trained by Wang in the way of Kendo
and Chi, to help him control his awakening mage powers. When Jonathan
started functioning as a Mage around 13, his main problem was turning
his astral perception off after it randomly turned on. As a result of
all of this, he spent his school years as a bit of a loner and social
outcast.

In high school, he answered a newspaper add placed by Peter, the
Privite detective. Jonathan sold his services as a astral viewer to
help make ends meet. Over the next several years, he alternated
working with Peter as an apprentice detective, and training with his
godfather wang. 

In 2056, after Jonathan graduated high school, and started working for
Peter full time, Wang went to visit relitives in Chacago, and was
apparently caught and killed in the events surrounding the Universal
Brotherhood being publicly exposed as an insect spirit hive. After the
memorial service, Jonathan used the remains of his and Wang's savings
to buy a really bad-ass sword to use is taking down insect sprits, and
encoraged Peter to join up with Oracle, who were much more anti-evil
critter, and much less following cheating spouces. Two years ago,
while trapped in a basement with a cockroach spirit, he got disarmed,
had a training flashback, manifested his psi-sword for the first
time, and proptly chopped it into many small chunks.
