The bows here were created from the weapon design system described under [Bow]. Lengths and weights approximated for ease of use. In order to fire a bow, you must spend 1 action drawing an arrow and 1 action readying the bow and arrow, so a bow may be fired every third action. Windling Toy Bow: ST 3.2, length 9 inches, weight 0.05 lb. SS 13, Acc 3, max damage 1d-2 If you're a ST of 3, you get to do thr+1 damage. With a ST of 4, you get to do swing: but that's just thr+1 anyway. A ST of 5 will damage the bow. Windling Shortbow: ST 5, length 1'3", weight 0.2 lb. SS 13/15 Acc 2/3, max damage 1d-1 Snap Shot and Acc depend on the height of the windling. If you're 22" or taller, it's SS 13 Acc 2, otherwise it's SS 15 Acc 3. ST 4 does thr damage, ST 5 through 6 do swing damage = thr+1. ST 7 will damage the bow. ST 3 has -2 skill, SS 17, Acc 0, and does 1d-4 damage. For these toy bows were built. Windling Warbow: ST 7.2, length 2 ft, weight 0.7 lb. SS 17, Acc 3, max damage 1d+1 ST 5 has SS 18 Acc 1 and does thr damage. Being nice, ST 6 through 9 do swing damage. (If you're not being nice, decrease damage for ST 6 by 1, i.e. to thr.) *a human may use a windling warbow as a toy bow, with SS 12, Acc 1, and some armorers may carry it as such.* Human Bow: ST 10, length 3 ft, weight 2 lb. SS 13, Acc 2, max damage 1d+3 Damage is thr for ST 7 (use a toy bow!), thr+1 for ST 8 and 9, and swing for ST 10 through 12. Human Warbow: ST 12, length 4 ft, weight 4 lb. SS 15, Acc 3, max damage 2d+1 *slightly long and for it's size...rare dwarven archers use a model that's only 3'9", or perhaps have composite bows.* Damage is thr+1 for ST 10-11, swing for 12 to 15. *Note that this also doubles as the orkish shortbow with SS 13, Acc 2, but as ST over 15 will damage it.* Ork bow: ST 15, length 5 ft, weight 7.5 lb. SS 15, Acc 3, max damage 3d-1 Damage is thr+1 for ST 13-14 (SS 16, Acc 1), swing for 15 to 18. ST 12 users do thr+1 damage, but suffer a -2 to skill, SS 18, no Acc. Get a Human Longbow. *note: weak trolls sometimes use ork bows with SS 13, Acc 2, but a 19 ST will damage it* Troll bow: ST 19, length 6'6", weight 16 lb. SS 16, Acc 1, max damage 4d-2 *slightly short for it's size, for simplicity* Damage is thr+1 for ST 18, swing for 19 to 23 ST 22 and 23 trolls get SS 15, Acc 3 (it's good to be strong). ST 17 trolls use Ork bows, or have -2 to skill, SS 18, and no Acc. Troll Warbow: ST 22, length 8 ft, weight 26 lb. SS 16, Acc 1, max damage 4d This sort of bow is only used by trolls with ST 23 or better, but won't be damaged by a ST of 27. If you'e using it, you're doing swing damage with it. ST 24 trolls get SS 15 and an Acc of 3 (it's still good to be strong). *Theoretically, a ST 27-30 troll could use an 9ft bow that weighed 35 lb. with SS 18, Acc 1, and max damage 4d+1. But really, why bother?* A ST 28.8 bow is the largest carry-bow likely to be seen without magical lightness or multiple arms--at ST 30, a bow suffers damage from the ST necessary to wield it effectively. (i.e. without a skill penalty). This bow is 11'3" long and weighs 64 lb, and is used by the very rare ST 36 individual who is 12" tall. Elves tend to use "human" boes (don't say that to their face), often more finely crafted. The rare dwarf who considers himself an archer might use a composite bow (who knows, dwarfs might have them), or the human bows.
Every place it said to halve Acc, I rounded it down (from 1.5 to 1). If rounding up matches published stats better, do that instead and make references to Acc 1 into Acc 2. --zebediah And an Archer gets +1 damage per 5 points of skill. So a Damn Good Troll still won't be doing more than 5d or so. --bts
